Firstly I really appreciate the kind words on my debut blog last week. It seems I entertained enough people for @InterComics to have me back on a regular basis. How regular depends on what I have to say and what’s happening in this lovely comic book universe. I’d just like to explain my plan of attack briefly before we get into the random nonsense I’m about to unload all over your computer screens. My blog for Inter-Comics will be just what I’m thinking about certain subjects at that time. I know not all will agree with me so feel free to follow me on twitter and send insults (or even death threats and I’ll retweet the best ones). If you like it I accept praise with open arms too. But like I said it may just be a new movie release that is up-coming or a new book I’m looking forward to. The only guarantee will be that somehow it will all be related to the comic book world. So without further ado… Welcome to (insert drum roll here!) Sean’s Journal: October 12th 1985. Tonight a Comedian died. (No I’m just fucking with you!) Welcome to The Comic Asylum!!
Why Turning Deadpool Serious Makes Sense.
I thought and thought about my follow up blog idea for Inter-Comics and after about an hour of nothing I decided to have a few beers. After I sunk the fifth can the idea I was looking for was staring at me this whole time. I cracked open the sixth fosters and smiled at the framed Deadpool Origin comic hanging on the wall, I took my top off did a wild stallions dance (Bill & Ted baby) and finished the last few cans. Right before I casually fell to the fall unconscious I scribbled my sober-self the idea. (Who says alcohol damages brain cells??)

Recreation of me preparing for this article!
So this is where I ended up. How in the muddy brown rivers of England can Mr Wade Wilson be portrayed on the silver screen for him to generate revenue the likes of his pals at Marvel have done! Comic book movies now are dominating the big screen; I dare you to find someone not a little bit piss your pants excited for the Dark Knight Rises. It does now seem Marvel is heading into the direction of film being their new comic book. So how can this wacky, eccentric, so out there breaking the fourth wall mother flicker be put out to snatch some of that Avenger audience. Not every living soul on this planet is a comic book fan. Just knock at your next door neighbour’s house and ask him/her do you know who Carnage is? Likely hood they might never look you in the eye ever again whilst walking past you in the street. So it’s a tough job to get a character like Deadpool out to the masses. We all know he has a very die hard cult following (while typing this I’m taking out life insurance) who don’t want anything about the “Merc with a Mouth” changed. To these lovely bunch of people (really please don’t hurt me) he is perfect just like every innuendo and pop cultural reference that comes out his scarred mouth. I’m not going to lie I freaking love Deadpool and would love to see a totally out there movie, but will it make the non-comic fan want to hand over money to watch a Deadpool film? I really don’t think so…

"He is perfect just like every innuendo and pop cultural reference that comes out his scarred mouth."
For more inspiration I reread the Origin one-shot, I ended up reading it back to back a good few times taking in everything Deadpool is saying about his past life. The first read I was laughing at most of the pages in jokes but after flicking through a few more times it kind of clicked on how mega dark this book is. Leave out the jokes about other Marvel characters and what you have is one of the best origin stories I can recall, from his mother dying of cancer to his dad walking out on him as a child. That on its own is some pretty harsh stuff but it gets worse for Wade. He gets a job being a mercenary then finally falls in love and suddenly his world is crushed once again as he finds out he has Stage IV cancer. Then as we all know he goes in for the weapon X program which backfires scarring him and finally sending him over the edge. Now this is where I see this going, I honestly think portrayed on film Deadpool should be a lot more of a serious character. I mean I love the crazy Wade who talks to the speech bubbles and breaks the forth wall, It works well in comic books I just don’t think it will on the big screen.
Here is my argument the way Marvel have handled their comic book films is amazing. Everything interlocks and in a strange geeky way it all makes sense. Be it not logical but it makes sense to the viewer. Now Fox have seemed to have got this through their thick skulls and rebooted two of their flagship comic films in X-Men and Spider-Man. We all know Deadpool has been in both of these stories in the comics but do you really think on screen you could place this mad man in their universe? I don’t. But what I do see is if Fox were to go into the direction of making Wade a more serious figure it could work as a stand-alone film with easter eggs across the film for the comic book fan. Put aside the jokes and the whole breaking the fourth wall and what you look at on paper is the story of a man who has been beaten and broken both mentally and physically and he is out to kick seven shades of the you know what out of bad guys. Now I’m not saying lose the jokes completely. Let him (Ryan Reynolds) do the wise cracks and innuendos but not in the way of “I know am in a movie and a comic book”. Like I stated above I would like nothing more than a balls out Deadpool film but it just makes more sense to me to turn him into Marvels Batman so to speak. People route for the underdog and that is how I’m viewing Wade Wilson. If Fox could put it out there as someone people can relate too, his back story and place in the movie comic-world would be a hit.

C'mon think dammit, what's my next article going to be??
So there you have it folks my two cents on a Deadpool film. I know this will be a 50/50 split and for a second blog on Inter-Comics is a risk but hey it’s a subject I feel strongly about. Either way I would love to hear other people’s views on it. Would it work? Would it flop? I’m on twitter almost 24/7 @seanfav1 so feel free to throw a comment my way. Thank you all for reading; I hope you enjoyed it as much as I did writing it.
