Having not been a long-time reader of comics, it wasn’t a big deal when I read that Geoff Johns, as well as Tomasi, Milligan, and Bedard were leaving their respective Lantern titles. I did initially think it was a bit extreme they were leaving at the same time although, after a while of looking at it, it made sense that they started with a clean slate in the wake of Johns leaving.

Well DC’s villains month is upon us and to celebrate this the gang talk about villains. From their favourites to which superhero has the best. Beware listener, dark times are ahead!
The third issue of Liberator by Miner & Aranda hit shelves on Wednesday, September 11th, 2013. Issue #3 opens with Damon and Jeanette surrounded by police officers on the Broughton University campus, liberated fuzzy bunnies in hand. Miner’s series has been excellent thus far in providing excellent hooks and jaw-dropping cliff-hangers that leave the reader craving that next issue, and unfortunately for this great series we’re now three quarters of the way to the conclusion.

Comic books. Comic books are weird. Lets be honest. They’re 23 paged little balls of death and emotion. They aren’t even a novella. They’re an assault on your senses and we lap them up like skittles at fat camp. There also isn’t just two major companies making these, as many non comic book readers may not be aware of. There are… indie comics. Not something I’m particularly used to reading if I’m honest.
Sheltered is a book with a solid concept as its foundation. What Brisson, Christmas and Chankhamma have done is created a scenario that has tension, action, characterisation and thematic strands. Sheltered is quite simply a compelling read. Brisson uses this second issue to play up the grief and confusion of the main characters, with the exception of Lucas. As the books antagonist Lucas comes across as a calm and charismatic psychopath, which makes him quite the terrifying adversary for our hero Victoria.
Sick of the same old re-fried tales of super-heroics in your comic books? Michael Avon Oeming’s Victories is different from what you are used to. No stranger to creator-owned comics, Oeming is best known for his long running Powers series with Brian Michael Bendis. Taking full responsibility for the art and writing here, he does an excellent job of introducing a new city, crammed full of larger-than-life characters while still keeping the story grounded and human.
It’s Marvel week on our 4th episode. Jack, Dan & Free discuss their best and worst Marvel comics of the week, their X-Men dream teams and even some Rocket Raccoon impressions. One of the friendliest people you will ever talk to on twitter is the creator/writer/artist/letterer of Monkey Squad One, Doug Michel. A creator owned comic that Doug initially produced purely for his nephews, has gone from strength to strength currently standing at issue #13. I have been lucky enough to receive some issues of MS1, from issue 6 to 12 including annuals.
