This time around we have James J Heath, producer of Indie film The Fitzroy talking about it’s tie in anthology comic! With odd ball characters and the finest tea, six different writers and artists bring us an alternative 1950’s Britain, with the world is covered in a poisonous gas, but society, fueled by tea and a stiff upper lip, is continuing to struggle on through these short and darkly funny stories.
This issue focuses more on Arkham Asylum, keeping other stories to a few pages, but there is so much going on in the Asylum that this issue feels just as all over the place as some of the other comics. Jim Corrigan takes on Mr. Bygone, a cursed man who has become maddened and vengeful from his incarceration in Asylum. He wants to inflict his hordes of spectres on Corrigan and make him unleash the Spectre, his alter-ego that he seems terrified of letting out into the open.
It is our one year anniversary! So the Freeless Defenders have teamed up with Mathew Wilmeau for a truly epic Fuck, Marry, Kill session. We also discuss the best and worst comics of the week, #29 of 52 and they even take a trip down memory lane. So sit down and enjoy the celebrations!
What a finale! I will be the first to admit that it could have been better. Matsu’s daughters have been bigged up for quite some time, yet they never really come into play, other than some creepy frames. Mathias feels like a cash-in to the old game. The fight is good, but not as climatic as I would have liked it. However, it could also have been a lot worse, which is my overall opinion of the first season of Gail Simone’s Tomb Raider series.

This time around we are talking to Gilbert Deltres, writer and creator of zombie horror comic Under The Flesh, a gritty blast of sex, horror, sci-fi, and dabbling in various sub-themes like evolution, spirituality, and transhumanism. A zombie apocalypse comic that strays away from the traditional viral story by accentuating a premeditated reason behind the virus, as opposed to leaving the origin of the outbreak as a common question mark.

I’m finding it quite difficult to think how to word this review. I love Tomasi’s work, and I think his work with Gleason has been consistently the best Batman book since the launch of the New 52. I also love the Fourth World and am instantly interested any time they become a focus in a book. The difficulty I have is that this issue has quite a few things I really dislike with it.
Batman Eternal once again decides to go through several plot lines at once, rather than knuckling down and truly getting to grips with a specific set of characters. I partially expected this after the gang war story was brought to a close; we need to be reminded what is left to do for the next set of issues. However, a bit more tack would have been nice.
The Inter-Comics indie Spotlight returns, after a brief hiatus involving marriage, honeymoons, metal music, drinking exclusively beer for a weekend and bin jousting! So, welcome back to the Inter-Comics Indie Spotlight, this column aims to make you, the readers, aware of cool indie/crowd funded comic book creators and projects!
This time around we have British comic writer and all round awesome bloke, Sam Read talking about his series, Exit Generation, with issue #2 just being released.
The problem with handling a franchise as massive as Batman is that it leaves you very restricted with where to take new stories. For example, the writers here felt very restricted by the fact that they were unable to kill off Falcone or the Penguin. It would have made a very bloody end to the gang war and would have made the build-up justifiable. However, seeing as there is the possibility that the fan base (as well as the writers themselves), would revolt if one of the more intriguing bad guys was written out of the canon, they felt unable to make that risk. As it stands, the gang war fizzles out rather than coming to an explosive end.
The narrative really struck me as being similar to Saga; it’s an anecdotal tale from an articulate individual who we see as a baby later revealed to be called Hope. Our main character is a man who is referred to as “No”, and he seems to have gotten his name from his monosyllabic answers, and he seems good hearted but also highly capable in close quarters combat.

The entire tone of the book is really light and totally fits with Dick Grayson’s character. Now is the time where I sound like a total DC fanboy and say that this book reminds me a lot of the current Marvel Now Daredevil series, except I like Grayson and haven’t been too sold on Daredevil. The similarities between the two books extends beyond the two acrobatic characters; both books make a lot of use of spirals and lines and jazzy colours that almost seem out of place but really suit the book.
Now let me throw this out there before people get upset or angry; I like Scott Snyder. I really liked The Black Mirror. I liked the Court of Owls. I mostly liked Death of the Family. Scott Snyder is a good writer…But Scott Snyder needs to stop doing story arcs that require a million issues. I’ve complained about Zero Year before for being too long, but Batman Eternal is estimated to run for Sixty issues. Sixty! From start to finish that’s fifteen months. This story will finish in around July 2015, and I cannot fathom why this story needs sixty issues to tell.
