I didn’t know what to expect going into this, Snyder hit a homerun with the Court of the Owls storyline so I guess I expected him to stumble out of the gates with “Death of the Family” oh, how wrong I was!
Ferals #8 begins with some good ole fashioned werewolfing and hard-core sex. We as readers have come to expect nothing less than the best in violence, sex and gore from David Lapham and Gabriel Andrade over these past 8 issues. As Dale Chestnutt is balls deep in his FBI partner and has her bent over the kitchen table, a knock at the door from the local ferals interrupts Dale’s passionate romp much to everybody’s chagrin.
Slott helps to add more character to Alpha in this issue, just making him a completely unlikeable little brat. Spider-Man shows extreme patience with this young hero in the making as Alpha just keeps doing things his own way. Peter Parker even shows signs of frustration as he goes to multiple characters for advice about his current situation.
When we last saw Dale Chestnutt, he was in a pretty rough state from the events of the first Ferals arc (see issues #1-6; previously reviewed) which culminated in a Mexican stand-off and shoot out free-for-all between Dale, Christopher Ingebritsen and the Ferals clan as well as the FBI agents.

The evolution of the Lizard character was really very interesting to see, the way the character plays out and its eventual ending was a breath of fresh air, kudos to Slott for making an old character seem new and relevant. A lot of story points happen in this issue and it will definitely make fans of the Hobgoblin happy.
We can see the progression of our protagonist from yellow-bellied grade-A pussy to the burgeoning possibilities of Edmund being a hero (this is the same dude that hid in a barrel as his mom, dad and brother were violently raped by Crossed geeks). Edmund puts his foot down in this issue – the crossed geeks will no longer violently fuck and kill their way across his community!
The issue opens with Edmund having returned home from the carnival and confessing to his mother and a police officer the brutality he witnessed while at the carnival with his father and brother (both now dead; having fallen victim to the Crossed in issue 10).
I’ll start off by honestly saying I came across Extermination more through luck than by any form of in-depth research. Whilst enjoying an afternoon off work last week, I was strolling through London’s West End and decided upon a visit to a nearby geek shop. One of this shop’s benefits is their collection of grab-bags, inclusive of four comics, for a measly £1. So amongst one of the four bags I bought was Extermination #1.
The start of this issue shows the previously deceased character known as Red as a young child conversing with her father and it leads right into a gut wrenching scene where her family is shot by a robber.
I would say, more than any other book in the Lantern series, Red Lanterns has benefited from the forthcoming Third Army event. It seems that Peter Milligan has been forced to get a move on if he intends to have his story of rage completed before the crossover drops into his universe and changes everything.
I’ve been excited to read this since Joe was posting art of this book on twitter and let me tell you, the excitement was worth the wait. We start off with a group of people getting ready to commit a robbery when they’re given a small surprise. Suddenly one team member murders another and foils the whole heist.
The Court of Owls finished spectacularly in issue #11 with “Bats” for the time being quietening the “Owls” but leaving lingering thoughts of whether Lincoln March is connected to Bruce Wayne and the inevitable demise of Alfred’s father in the side story. Inevitable because without it, Alfred may never have returned to Gotham and Bruce might have been without his most trusted confidante.
Dr. David Loren PHD, a former whiz-kid, has been working for the military for most of his life in a DARPA led think tank. However he’s no longer comfortable creating fantastic pieces of machinery that are stunningly efficient killing machines which has lead him to become rather lackadaisical towards his work.
I got the honor of meeting Cesar Feliciano, artist of the Red 10 yesterday at a con and picked up both issues 1 and 2. The story starts off with the superhero Red being beaten to a pulp and then shot point blank. Now that’s how you catch a readers attention! The story goes on with a team of superheros attempting to find Red’s killer.
