When I was a kid, he-man and the masters of the universe was the single biggest thing in my life. I always had a sword down my back, and always watched the cartoons. So of course when issue 1 of a new DC comics series of He-man came through the post, I couldn’t contain my inner child.
Batman earth one is a retelling of the origins of the superhero, who is just about the most recognisable character in history. We have all heard or seen or read different origin stories. This can be the cause of many arguments amongst Bat-fans.
Wow! What a rollercoaster ride we got in this issue! From start to finish Dan Slott brings us a fast and fun issue. Dr. Connors/Lizard has some great Jekyll and Hyde moments that truly shine and the way he can manipulate practically every character in this story is something to see.
Of the entire tie ins for AVX; it’s my opinion that Uncanny X-Men has suffered the most. Since AVX is such a huge deal for the X-Men, it seems like this book can’t really talk about anything nor do anything because it’s a tie in book and most of the big game changing events will be saved for the main line.
The first five issues of this series have been a little to bland for my tastes, it’s like watching two prized fighters waiting for an opening and neither one wants to throw the first punch. The addition of the Phoenix Five in Round 6 has finally raised some much needed excitement into this event.
Batman – the new 52 is a refreshing re-launch that is slowly introducing us to a new a battle for Gotham City, one between Bats and Owls. This is a battle I didn’t see coming but one that is slowly hinted at in issue one, with issues 2 to seven bringing the owls into the fore and issue eight begins the ‘Night of the Owls’.
If you haven’t heard about Saga by now, where have you been? Under a rock? One of the best new comics Image has published in years, Brian K. Vaughan returns to the comic industry with a hit.

Hello and welcome to the next part of the best of Judge Dredd! Part two focusses on the storyline entitled ‘The Day The Law Died, which in itself is a tale of epic proportions. While not as lengthy as The Cursed Earth, it is still just as good and more than earns it’s place in my best of list.
If you have been following the New Avengers you know that this tie in has taken a different path in order to give more information about the Phoenix Force. In order to tell its story, we have to travel back many years and learn of another Phoenix Host…Fongi, who was also an Iron-Fist.
A member of the new Phoenix Five comes to visit the Avengers Academy, and it doesn’t end well. The story focuses on Juston and his Sentinel that he is trying to reprogram. Juston believes that he can reprogram it to do good things (like not kill mutants) but this doesn’t sit well with X-23 (the female clone of Wolverine) who wants to destroy the Sentinel based on its previous history.
This is the one that changes everything. We have been on this incredible, emotional roller coaster since last September. Scott Snyder chose a different route than many of the other Batman comics that are currently available, in that he didn’t want to start his interpretation of the Dark Knight with the same villains that everyone has known for years. He chose to showcase something more meaningful, something that has been built into the mythos of Gotham City as far back as the late 1800s. Something that would truly reinvent the way we not only look at Gotham City and its rich history, but also the Batman series as a whole.
With the Ends of the Earth Story Arc reaching its conclusion last issue (with a less than impressive conclusion), The Amazing Spider-Man kicks off it’s new arc in issue #688 “No Turning Back” with two classic Spider-Man baddies! Morbius the Living Vampire and the Lizard!
Silver Surfer: Requiem was published by Marvel Knights in 2007 as a four-issue miniseries written by J. Michael Straczynski, with art from Esad Ribic. Initially released to coincide with the Surfer’s first cinema appearance in Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer the miniseries tells the story of Norrin Radd as he learns that his days are numbered.
