If you’ve not been on board with Black Science then you’ve been missing a treat. This sci-fi juggernaut is a trans dimensional yarn, rippling through time and space, probing at the very layers of humanity and human nature. Remender’s ensemble cast is one of various shades of grey, and with the protagonist, Grant McKay, out of action this issue, it gives his other characters room to breathe.
I’m a sucker for Damian; when I first heard of him I was put off the idea of Bruce Wayne having a son, but when I read the way he was written by Morrison and Tomasi I fell in love with the little sucker. When he was killed in Batman Incorporated I was quite shocked and knew I’d miss him, so seeing Kubert was going to write a miniseries about grown up Damian I had to get into it.
DC has been teasing us with the new Batman of Earth 2 for months now, and even though the name was leaked back in October there were still a host of questions, starting with which one? As it turns out, it’s an almost wholly new version of a very familiar name. We see echoes of Dr. Hurt from Grant Morrison’s run, but the details are all new.

I’m not the biggest fan of Serenity in the ‘verse, but I’m definitely amongst those who have been hoping for its return. It was a massively underrated TV show, a fantastic sleeper hit 8 years ago and had a wealth of great characters and was something that is sorely lacking in modern cinema, it was ORIGINAL! Step in Zack Whedon and Dark Horse comics.
I’ve followed all of New 52 Batman – from issue #0 to the subject of this review, issue #27. I have really enjoyed what Scott Snyder has done, and knowing he was going to re-do the origin of Batman I was slightly sceptical. How do you do what Year One did but better? Well, Snyder took the approach of not re-telling Year One, and I think it has worked wonders for him.
The first thing to remember about All-New Invaders is that it isn’t an Invaders book. These characters aren’t the Invaders, and James Robinson is not trying to revive a nearly forty-year-old franchise. This is not that book, if you want that book I suggest hunting out the back issues. Instead, this is a sequel to that series, picking up the characters where they are now.
The buzz around Deadly Class has been smouldering away like St Elmo’s fire for weeks now, so finally we get the chance to sample Remender and Craig’s wares, and lo this writer wasn’t disappointed! We’ve seen schools for “Gifted Youngsters”, schools of “Witchcraft and Wizardry” and schools for Young Avengers, New Avengers, Tiny Titans, Teen Titans and the odd school of assassins, but Remender’s school is so much more than the sum of those parts.
I was really unsure about how this series was going to go after the death of Damian – spoilers if you basically don’t read Batman comics. I understood the use of the extended Bat Family to go through the various stages of grief with Bruce, but choosing Two-Face afterwards just seemed odd. Turns out I shouldn’t doubt Tomasi. Ever.
The past few Justice League issues have gone over the Crime Syndicate’s twisted origins, but now we’re back on the good guy’s side. This issue is all about Cyborg, who hasn’t done too well in this story so far considering Grid took all his robot parts away and left him for dead.
