Slott helps to add more character to Alpha in this issue, just making him a completely unlikeable little brat. Spider-Man shows extreme patience with this young hero in the making as Alpha just keeps doing things his own way. Peter Parker even shows signs of frustration as he goes to multiple characters for advice about his current situation.
Happy 50th Birthday Spider-Man! The Amazing Spider-Man #694 is giving us a special oversized issue for 50 years of web slinging containing 3 Spider-Man stories and the introduction of a new character! What are we waiting for, let’s get to it!
The evolution of the Lizard character was really very interesting to see, the way the character plays out and its eventual ending was a breath of fresh air, kudos to Slott for making an old character seem new and relevant. A lot of story points happen in this issue and it will definitely make fans of the Hobgoblin happy.
Juston, Sentinel and the entire Avengers Academy take on Emma Frost as she tries to destroy Juston’s Sentinel. This is the conclusion that was introduced in the previous issue as Emma made a visit to the academy to dismantle the Sentinel because of it’s mutant killing history.
Spider-Man looks pretty good for fifty years old! This is a special anniversary point issue (a stand alone story) that follows Peter Parker as he does a favor for an old friend that takes him back to the warehouse where the burglar hid after he killed Uncle Ben (spoiler)
Wow…just wow…the members of the X-Force are dropping like flies and now we are in the future with a new X-Force hunting members of our current X-Force! Uncanny X-Force is the only comic that I cannot break down into a good, bad and verdict type review. My verdict is to buy every single issue of the series so that we can all talk about how amazing it is and how mad we are about the characters that have died.
A Wolverine and the X-Men comic without Wolverine…that’s actually pretty good! This is a Kitty Pryde issue, which is great because it feel’s like it’s been ages since we last checked in on her and the school. The issue focuses on Kitty as she goes on a date with Phoenix Five’s Colossus.
This is it! We finally get a hard hitting issue in this long drawn out event…at the expense of Spider-Man. The series finally seems to grow at heart, maybe because Spider-Man is the one telling the story here. We see all the events through his bruised, bloody eyes as the Phoenix Five grows stronger and takes down more Avengers each passing day.
The artwork, writing and character interactions are what make the Amazing Spider-Man one of the best comics out today. We get an intense battle between Spider-Man and Morbius all the while Madame Web is trying to get Spider-Man to save others by leaving Morbius behind. This will probably play into the big reveal in the #700 issue, so make sure to read this one.
Marvel fans knew that there would be major changes on the horizon after the Avengers vs. X-Men event, but few had any idea that Marvel would do a Relaunch. Dubbed Marvel NOW! This is more or less a direct response to DC’s New 52 (DC also rebooted their Universe last summer with very positive results) which will launch later this year. Marvel has made it clear that this isn’t a complete reboot but more of a new beginning for new readers to jump onto.
With a history as detailed as Carol Danvers, it’s a shame that she isn’t a household name. Marvel doesn’t have a whole lot (?) if any female lead comics on the shelves today so it’s refreshing to see Carol get another shot at a solo series (her previous run of Ms. Marvel ended in 2010) as the new Captain Marvel.
While Wolverine and the X-Men is still the best tie in comic during the AVX event, New Avengers is a close second. This issue is about the direct fallout of AvX with the X-Men keeping Spider-Woman, Hawkeye and Luke Cage as prisoners of War.
Wow, ok…this review is going to be kinda different. I won’t break this up into a positive, negative, verdict because I fear the more I talk about the issue the higher the chance of me spoiling it for you the reader.
Wolverine and the X-Men has been the best of all the tie in comics to AVX (aside from New Avengers) and it really does very little to advance the plot of the main line. We get the Phoenix Five battling the Shi’ar Army (and what a battle!) but it plays out in the background as this is more of a story of Warbird’s origin.
Let’s get to it! Daredevil vs Psylocke and Thor vs Emma Frost! The entire book, we get a great martial arts fight between Psylocke (one of my favorite characters right now) and Daredevil.
